Washington, D.C.— The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) has been selected as a winner in the 2000 "Associations Advance America" awards, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
ARTBA received the recognition for its efforts to promote safety in roadway construction zones through the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse, which is based at the Texas Transportation Institute, is a joint partnership of the Federal Highway Administration and ARTBA, aimed at reducing the more than 700 deaths and 37,000 injuries that occur each year in these sites.
Now in its 10th year, the prestigious "Associations Advance America" awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward—with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service.
"ARTBA’s program truly embodies the spirit of the ‘Associations Advance America’ campaign," ASAE President Michael S. Olson said. "It is an honor and inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society."
This marks the second national award ARTBA has received for the Clearinghouse project.
ARTBA, founded in 1902, is the only national association that exclusively represents the collective interests of all sectors of the U.S. transportation construction industry before the White House, Congress, federal agencies, media and the public. The U.S. transportation construction industry that ARTBA represents generates more than $160 billion in U.S. economic activity annually and provides employment for more than 2.2 million Americans.
