CH2M HILL to Host National Work Zone Memorial

In tribute to the men, women, and children killed in work zone incidents, CH2M HILL will host the National Work Zone Memorial at the Denver campus. The memorial is traveling to communities around the country to raise awareness of the need to respect and stay safe in America’s roadway work zones.

Unveiled in 2002, the traveling memorial created by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), serves as a living tribute to those who have died in work zone incidents and crashes—not only work zone workers, but also motorists, pedestrians, law enforcement officers, public safety officials, and children.

To show our respect and acknowledge those that have lost their lives in work zone incidents, Denver-based CH2M HILL employees will honor fallen workers with a special event on the Denver campus on Thursday, April 17, 2008.

In 2005, 1,074 people died in highway work zones, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA.) And each year, more than 40,000 individuals are injured in work zones across the U.S.—that’s one injury every nine minutes.

With the summer travel season approaching, let’s remember to be attentive and cautious while driving and while working in work zones. Work zones in many cities operate through the night so it’s important to remain aware of and comply with signs you see on the road regardless of the time of day.

We care about the safety of all CH2M HILL employees—whether you’re working a work zone, or simply traveling through—we want you and your family members to return home safely every day.
