(WASHINGTON)—The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse is using cutting-edge technology to power an interactive learning and networking experience for public officials, contractors and other transportation industry professionals.

Scheduled for September 18-20 at your desktop, the Clearinghouse will host the comprehensive “Best Practices in Work Zone Safety” educational component of the “Local Transportation Asset Management Virtual Conference & Innovation Showcase,” or LōTrans™ 2012.  Leading industry firms will also be displaying their products and services through virtual exhibit booths.

Here’s the real bonus.  Participating in this virtual event will cost nothing.  No registration fees.  No travel authorizations needed.  No airfare, train, hotel or meal expenses.  No nights away from home.  All you need is your desktop or laptop computer and an Internet connection.

Session content and speakers will focus on these key areas:

  • Speed management in work zones.
  • Avoiding runovers and backovers of workers.
  • The art of making workers and traffic control devices visible.
  • Toward zero deaths—from concept to reality: an overview of efforts from around the world in the U.S.
  • Work zone access and egress strategies.
  • Using technology to make work zones safer.
  • Safety strategies for local and rural roads.
  • Best safety practices from leading U.S. contractors.
  • Communicating with the public—best practices.

The Clearinghouse’s is partnering with one of the nation’s leading virtual technology companies, which has a platform that seamlessly brings together—in real time, over ultra-high speed feeds—state-of-the-art computer animation and framing… live, streaming and download video and digital content technologies… and interactive “chat room” networking.
