Work Zone Safety and Mobility at the 2010 TRB Meeting!
The 89th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) will be January 10-14, 2010 in Washington, DC. Those interested in work zone safety and mobility issues will find numerous sessions devoted to the topic:
- Work Zone Mobility and Safety Analyses, Monday, January 11th, 7:30 PM – This poster session provides attendees an opportunity to review several recent research efforts on methods and results of several different types of work zone safety and mobility analyses. Traffic simulation models, driver simulation laboratory studies, field evaluations, and crash prediction modeling efforts can all be found in this session.
- Work Zone Speed and Merge Control Strategies, Tuesday, January 12th, 9:30 AM – As the title implies, this poster session incorporates several research papers devoted to the development and evaluation of various speed and merge control techniques for work zone applications.
- Work Zone Safety Data: What We Know, What We are Doing, and What We Really Need, Tuesday, January 12th, 1:30 PM – A group of distinguished national experts have been assembled to talk about each of these aspects of work zone safety analyses.
- Advances in Work Zone Traffic Control, Tuesday, January 12th, 3:45 PM – In this session, formal presentations will be made on recent research results pertaining to work zone variable speed limit design, improved techniques for moving lane closure, temporary rumble strips, and implementation of short-term speed limits in work zones.
In addition, two meetings have been scheduled during TRB to also discuss work zone safety and mobility issues:
- Positive Protection in Work Zones, Tuesday, January 12th, 7:30 PM – This newly-formed subcommittee is jointly sponsored by the Work Zone Traffic Control Committee, The Roadside Safety Design Committee, and the Construction Management Committee. The meeting is open to all TRB attendees.
- Work Zone Traffic Control, Wednesday, January 13th, 8:00 AM – This meeting of the TRB committee will cover various ongoing committee efforts, and include presentations and discussions of various work zone safety and mobility activities underway nationally. This meeting is also open to all TRB attendees.
All sessions and meeting will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Please contact Gerald Ullman, Work Zone Traffic Control Committee chair, at g-ullman@tamu.edu, if you need additional information.
