Outreach Details
State/Agency: Missouri
Campaign Name: MoDOT Drive Smart Campaign
Description: The goal of this work zone campaign is to reduce work zone crashes and fatalities by educating Missouri drivers on the importance of driving safely. The theme of "Don't Barrel Through Work Zones" is used along with MoDOT's road signs that remind motorists that "The Difference is YOU. Drive Smart." A new statewide spokesperson has been introduced for work zone safety this year - Barrel Bob. He is 11 feet tall and 8 feet wide and made of orange and white work zone barrels. He will be manning work zones around the state this summer to get travelers’ attention. He is also being used in all statewide media - radio spots, internet ads, posters, gas pump toppers, and has his very own Facebook page as well. They also have a link from their website (http://www.modot.org) where the public can go for all work zone related information. They hand out informational fliers and posters. They distribute a statewide news release and talking points, which were used in articles for the statewide and district employee newsletters.
