Practice Provision: Flagger certification and training
Description:
From Virginia Department of Transportation Road and Bridge Specifications:

"Flagging Traffic: Certified flaggers shall be provided in sufficient number and locations as necessary for control and protection of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in accordance with the requirements of the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual (VWAPM)."

"Certification for flaggers will be awarded upon a candidate’s satisfactory completion of an examination. Certification cards shall be carried by flaggers while performing flagging duties."

From Virginia Flagger Certification Kit Order Form:

"Anyone who performs flagger operations within the Commonwealth's right-of-way is required to be flagger certifies. Certification consists of reviewing material in the Flagger Certification Kit and successfully passing an examination. The Virgina Department of Transportation Flagger Certification Kit includes a revised flagger informational DVD, flagging literature, a Work Zone Safety Pocket Guide, a copy of the certification exam, and twelve (12) certification cards."

"Flagger certification is valid for two years from the date of successfully passing the exam."

ATSSA certification is accepted. To get a flagger training program approved, submit it to David B. Rush.
