Title: Caution: Zones Can be Deadly

Abstract: Federal Highway Administration figures show fatalities from motor vehicle crashes in work zones nationwide rose from 989 in 2001 to 1,074 in 2005. In addition, an average of more than 40,000 people are injured each year. In Florida, 85 people were killed in construction zones in 2006, according to figures from the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. This article discusses some of the dangers present for both drivers and workers in work zone areas with particular focus on a work area along Interstate 95 between Fiske Boulevard and State Road 528 in Florida.
