"Slow Down - My Mommy Works Here" and "Slow Down, My Daddy Works Here."
In a change from the standard "Give Them a Brake" construction zone safety campaign, PennDOT began using the "Slow Down, My [parental unit] Works Here" signs to tug at the heart strings of drivers and make them slow down in the early 2000s. Emblazoned with a child's handwriting, the signs read: "Slow Down - My Mommy Works Here" and "Slow Down, My Daddy Works Here." This PennDOT sign initiative is aimed at getting motorists to slow down in work zones by reminding them that the people working in these often dangerous highway conditions are someone's parent, spouse, sister, brother, or loved one. Every work zone crew member deserves to have a safe environment in which to work.
