Abstract: This article introduces longitudinal channelizing devices (LCDs) and their current applications. Pros and cons of are discussed. It concludes that LCDs have the potential to replace cones, drums, and barricades for delineation but they do not provide positive protection for obstacles, pedestrians, or workers. It is suggested that guidance regarding the application of LCDs in work zones should be developed and further research should be conducted on the issues concerning the implementation of LCDs.
