Title: Cops Pushed Around on Move-Over Law: Ticketed Drivers Winning in Court
Author/Presenter: Crimaldi, Laura
Abstract: Despite aggressive ticketing by California cops, motorists are finding ways to escape the fine associated with failing to move-over while cops assist other motorists. Since its inception, the move over law has rendered fines to a mere 60% of drivers pulled over for move-over violations. California cops feel the courts are taking the violation too lightly by allowing drivers to escape the consequences of the violation. California highway patrolmen feel very strongly on the issue because of recent fatalities that could have been avoided had motorists changed lanes. In order to protect California cops, it may be necessary for the court system to crack down on move-over violations and begin issuing more fines to ticketed drivers.
