Abstract: Portable traffic signals are a new innovative technology that can help reduce construction worker injuries by eliminating the need for workers to be present in work zones. Traditionally, projects that reduce traffic to one lane require a crew of at least three people - one pilot car driver and two flaggers. Portable traffic signals reduce the need for flaggers and require only the presence of a pilot car driver. Drivers in the Brownwood area can expect to see more portable traffic signals employed in the near future.
