Abstract: Road crews are currently laboring to open roads to handle a daily influx of hundreds of 18-wheelers and thousands of cars in Madison County, MS. Orange barrels, detours and reduced speed limits have traffic tied up as multiple projects present a maze for motorists. Projections show the average daily traffic count on I-55 south of the Gluckstadt exit will increase from 15,900 northbound and 15,600 southbound in 2002 to 41,800 northbound and 42,600 southbound in 2012. A Madison County supervisor said the county is investing $20 million in infrastructure to support the new roads. As far as delays caused by construction, people should be prepared to wait or to leave early.
