ARTBA Foundation Announces Privatization of National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse
Abstract:The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse, which is now handling over 24,000 information requests annually, announced it is now being operated without federal funds. The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), which launched the premier roadway safety information resource in February 1998 under a just-ended three-year cooperative agreement with the Federal Highway Administration, has announced that its foundation will continue Clearinghouse operations in partnership with private-sector firms, associations and labor organizations. The Clearinghouse offers those involved in activities aimed at making roadway construction sites safer a high-tech “one-stop information shop.” The facility has compiled the latest information available on road construction traffic control, construction safety management “best practices,” international research, and safety training courses and programs. Clearinghouse users can also access information on roadway safety-related laws, regulations, legal cases, public awareness campaigns, products and services and how to reach safety specialists.
