Title: Midwest Smart Work Zone Deployment Initiative (MwSWZDI) Project Year 2002 Evaluations: Construction Area Late Merge (CALM) System
Abstract: The two primary goals of this evaluation were to compare the effectiveness of the CALM system (late merge) with that of conventional work zone traffic control (early merge) and to collect data that might be used later to improve the modeling of late merge systems. Secondary goals included studying the effects of displaying real-time downstream speeds and examining system deployment and operation considerations.
