Title: Signs Should Be a Warning
Author/Presenter: Brown, Peter
Abstract: The M42, new variable speed limit signs began operating to slow down people speeding. The M42 is more technologically advanced than the M25, which was introduced in 1994. Paul Watters, the head of roads and transport policy at the Trust, said, "When it first started, the M25 variable speed control was a high-tech solution to congestion, but with a low IQ. This time, with the M42, we hope it's a high-tech system with much better intelligence." The M42 will help warn drivers to reduce speed as well as track speed. The Highways Agency has said that where reasons for slower speeds are not obvious, electronic message signs will tell drivers why they need to slow down.
