Abstract: The IH 45 Pierce Elevated reconstruction in Houston was hailed as a successful project, not only in the city, but statewide. Several steps in the planning, execution, and evaluation of the Pierce Elevated reconstruction provide a strong framework for preparing for projects affecting critical links in the transportation systems of this nation's metropolitan areas. These elements include preconstruction traffic modeling, public information, and data collection before and during each phase of construction.
