Title: New York State Finds Intrusion Alarm a Potential Life-Saver
Publication Number: FHWA-SA-96-045
Abstract: Highway work zones are dangerous places. Looking for a way to make work zones safer, the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) decided to test a new device-the intrusion alarm. Developed under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), the intrusion alarm is tripped when a vehicle accidentally enters a work zone. A loud siren instantly sounds, giving the crew several life-saving seconds to get out of the way.
