Title: Use of Police in Work Zones on Highways in Virgina: Final Report
Author/Presenter: Arnold, E.D., Jr.
Abstract: Previous studies have indicated that the use of a staffed police car positioned at the front of work zones is one of the most effective methods of controlling speed in work zones. The purpose of this report was to document current practices regarding the use of police in work zones in Virginia and to determine whether or not any enhancements could be made. Information regarding current practices and effectiveness of those practices was collected by means of a survey. The results of the survey indicated that respondents felt the use of police in work zones was effective and few adverse effects were noted.
