Title: Working after Dark: Night Work and Roadway Safety
Author/Presenter: Jones, Walter
Abstract: Night work has become a fact of life in highway construction. One of the reasons roadway construction is conducted at night is to avoid traffic congestion and related problems that are encountered on high volume roads during daylight hours. Managing the risk factors of reduced visibility, impaired drivers and high speeds is the key to improving safety in nighttime work zones. This article provides a list of suggested practices to help reduce risks and it also announces the availability of Highway Work Zone Safety Checklist published by Laborers' Health & Safety Fund of North America.
