Title: Challenges to Implementation of Work Zone Lighting Guidelines
Author/Presenter: Ullman, Gerald; Finley, Melisa
Abstract: Lighting is one of the most important factors for nighttime construction. Motorist and worker safety, quality of work, productivity, and worker morale are all directly related to work zone lighting. Although lighting requirements for nighttime construction have been established, there are several key impediments to the application of these requirements. In this paper, researchers identify several of the key issues that appear to constrain further improvement in work zone lighting, and discuss several high-leverage research and development opportunities available to address these issues.
