Practice Provision: Photo enforcement in work zones
Description:
South Dakota is experimenting with two laser/cam speed detection units in work zones as part of its Work Zone Speed Enforcement Program. The laser radar speed detection gun is used by an officer in speed detection and enforcement. The combination laser/video is used by traffic engineers who are certified in operating this equipment. Vehicles and license plates are recorded on video, and a warning ticket for speeding is sent to offenders along with a picture of the vehicle, date, location, and speed. This process is being evaluated for data gathering and as a possible enforcement tool (for actual citation activity).
