Title: Heavy Equipment Operator Training Course
Description: Approximately half of the 8-week (320 hours) course time is spent in the classroom and half is spent in the field. The purpose of this eight-week course is to train entry level equipment operators. Graduates are qualified to operate back hoes, dozers, scrapers, graders and loaders in construction and maintenance fields. In addition to Heavy Equipment Operation, graduates are qualified to perform jobs in site-preparation, setup, flaggers, grade-checking and survey crews. No sharing equipment after first 4 days of instruction. Approximately 4 hours operating your own equipment daily. Direct hands-on operation of backhoes, trackhoes, bulldozers, loaders, graders and scrapers. Students will spend approximately 50% of training time in the field doing designed projects, including set-up, grade checking, cut and fill and preventative maintenance. Each student will specialize in 2 pieces of equipment. Classroom time consists of engineering, safety, applied math and volume computations. Surveying training consists in use of transit levels, chain and rod, plumb bob and hand-sight levels. Actual projects are surveyed throughout the student tenure. Students perform all projects under the supervision of instructors who advise and guide them, as needed. Construction conditions exist to train students in a work atmosphere.
