Title: Work Zone Traffic Control/Qualified Flagger
Description:
The class will discuss the proper usage of common, temporary traffic control devices such as cones, drums, barricades, signs, arrow panels, and message boards. Students will understand each component of a typical work zone and how to lay out buffers, tapers, advance warning areas, and termination areas. Students will understand sign spacing and required sign wordage. Students will be introduced to the TxDOT standard traffic control plans in the event work must be performed on a TxDOT-controlled roadway. Students will be introduced to the requirements of crash-compliant traffic control devices and the TxDOT Compliant Work Zone Traffic Control Device List in accordance with NCHRP 350. To become a Qualified Flagger, the student must successfully demonstrate proper use of hand signaling devices and score a minimum of 70 on a written, timed examination. Upon Successful Completion of Training: A Certificate of Attendance is issued. A Qualified Flagger Wallet Card with 3-year expiration date is issued upon achieving minimum score on the exam.
Audience: All personnel involved in the design, layout and maintenance of traffic control devices on public roadways in Texas.
