On March 24, Speaker Scott Wolf of Dicke Safety Products presented on a case study of an actual crash and resulting law suit involving a temporary utility work zone on a low volume/low speed road. What was done and what should have been done according to the current MUTCD were examined. Lessons learned from the resulting liabilities and the other outcomes in the case were also discussed.

On Sept. 4, 2008, the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse held a free informational session on the new FHWA regulation that takes effect November 24, 2008. This new standard requires the use of high visibility clothing (as defined by ANSI/ISEA 107 standard) when working in the right-of-way on federal-aid highways. Speakers were Hari Kalla, MUTCD Team Leader for FHWA’s Office of Operations and Janice Bradley, Technical Director of the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA).
