Engineers of work zones have the responsibility to make sure that the work zone is designed and operating properly -- with safety in mind. This page is intended to give you a brief overview of what we have on this web site that would help you do your job better.
Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices - Defines the standards used by road managers nationwide to install and maintain traffic control devices on all streets and highways.
Federal Regulations - Includes federal regulations that are applicable to work zone operations.
Standards, Specifications, and Standard Plans - Includes stanadard specifications, supplemental specifications, special provisions, policies, procedures, and traffic control plans by state or agency.
Manuals, Policies, Guidelines, and Handbooks - Includes construction, maintenance, utility, safety, and traffic control manuals, policies, guidelines, and handbooks developed by state departments of transportation and other agencies.
Utility Work Zone Traffic Control - Includes Guidelines, Presentations, Instructor's Guide, Case Studies, and Temporary Traffic Control Plan (TTCP) Software. It is developed by Wayne State University under the FHWA Work Zone Safety Grant.
FHWA Work Zone Best Practices Guidebook - Provides access to information and points of contact about current best practices for achieving work zone mobility and safety.
Agency/State Current Practices - Provides information and points of contact about current state/agency practices in terms of work zone operations.
Research Publications - Includes articles, books, reports, and presentations that are related to work zone safety.
Research Projects - Includes links to databases that contain information on completed or ongoing research projects.
