Hong Kong to Develop Traffic and Incident Management System

Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Transportation is proposing to develop a Traffic and Incident Management System costing the equivalent of $12.8 million US dollars. The new proposal would improve the current system which is operated manually, and would disseminate real-time traffic information to the public. The computerized system will have the capability to generate new traffic plans to reduce incident durations by an average of ten minutes. The proposed management system will include: Real-time traffic information, a Knowledge Based Expert System (KBES), a sub-system, and a data platform for dissemination purposes. The new management system is expected to be tested and put into place in 2015.
