Smarter Work Zone Initiative: Demonstration Site Visits

Hanover/College Park, Maryland Site Visit

Battelle and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) conducted a one-day demonstration site visit of Smarter Work Zones (SWZ) utilizing innovative technology applications and project coordination strategies in Hanover and College Park, Maryland on December 6, 2016. The visit included a tour of the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDSHA) Statewide Operations Center and Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART), a tour of a field deployment of MDSHA’s Automated Speed Enforcement system, a presentation on MDSHA’s Lane Closure Permit System, and a tour of the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT) Lab. Demonstration Site Visits Participants/Attendees

The demonstration site visit was facilitated by Hunter McCracken of Battelle and moderated by Martha Kapitanov and Todd Peterson of FHWA. Eight participants from various state DOTs were in attendance as well as representatives from MDSHA, the University of Maryland, and FHWA Division Offices.
